Blooms and Bowls

Yellow ware bowls on an old cobbler's shoe rack.

I meant to post pictures of my bowl collection, (per Gayle’s request), last week. but my apologies; time is getting away from me.

There is so much to do at this time of year!

I have already made two trips to my favorite green house for plants and with Pog’s help another trip just for potting soil and pots.

The yard has been mowed for the first time, water hoses have been reconnected, summer furniture is starting to come out of storage and the list goes on.

We still have flowerbeds to clean out and then to mulch.

There are lots of crocks and churns too!

All this outside work leaves me little time or energy to work in the studio,

but I do have new dishtowels, with pinwheels, on the Baby Wolf loom!

Sadie says Hi - she thought it was great fun taking pictures of the bowls.
Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Tomato Time

Well it is not time for tomatoes from the garden, but it is always time for tomato pincushions.

I’ve been picking these up for years, long before it was popular to collect them.
I’m really glad I did.
Have you seen the prices some of these are bringing on sites such as EBay?
I watched an auction recently that was a lot of 14 strawberry emeries
 that brought over 140 dollars!!

I’ve collected some and placed them in old jars; but my favorites are the ones in old sewing machine drawers that Pog connected together
and hung with my old money drawer in our stairwell.

These three are so tiny. The red one on the left is my favorite.

I am also lucky to have my mother’s, my grandmother’s
and my original one from over twenty years ago.
See how the pins are arranged on it?

I came home from work one day to find my son, when he was around five or six had taken all the pins and arranged them into patterns and even left me a smiley face.

I never had the heart to take them out or use it after that, so I kept it as I found it.

I came up with my own version of stacked tomatoes for the top of my
 firkins next to the drawers.

I really like how this turned out with the wool, leaves
and a little bird that’s found a strawberry.

This one is a keeper, so I will have to make another for sale in the studio.

The Last Two Little Quilts

I finally finished  my last two little quilts from Kathleen Tracy of
A Sentimental Quilter, 2012 challenge.

The Turkey Tracks in blue is my favorite.

I did finish 12 little quilts but I know I am a few months late!
Well better late than never.

I had this little pumpkin head started so I finished him to go with this little quilt.

Last week we had rain and snow.
This week 80 degree temps!
What a difference a week makes.
Spring has finally sprung here in the mountains!

Dish Towels

 I’ve been weaving dish towels.

They are easy to weave and great for experimenting.
I have a lot of 8/2 cottons, which are not my normal colors and I wanted to use them up.
Dish towels are a great stash buster.

These are 8-shaft straight draw, which should have been a pinwheel pattern.
 I don’t see a pinwheel.
Rechecked tie up and treadling and its correct, but no pinwheel.
I think it is there, but the two similar yarns in color value blurred the pattern.

No matter, they turned out nice.

We are having sleet mixed with rain this morn.
 Where oh where is spring?
