Well it is not time for tomatoes from the garden, but it is
always time for tomato pincushions.
I’ve been picking these up for years, long
before it was popular to collect them.
I’m really glad I did.
Have you seen the
prices some of these are bringing on sites such as EBay?
I watched an auction
recently that was a lot of 14 strawberry emeries
that brought over 140
dollars!!
I’ve collected some and placed them in old jars; but my
favorites are the ones in old sewing machine drawers that Pog connected
together
and hung with my old money drawer in our stairwell.
These three are so tiny. The red one on the left is my
favorite.
I am also lucky to have my mother’s, my grandmother’s
and my
original one from over twenty years ago.

I
came home from work one day to find my son, when he was around five or six had
taken all the pins and arranged them into patterns and even left me a smiley
face.
I never had the heart to take them out or use it after that, so I kept it
as I found it.
I came up with my own version of stacked tomatoes for the
top of my
firkins next to the drawers.
I really like how this turned out with
the wool, leaves
and a little bird that’s found a strawberry.
This one is a
keeper, so I will have to make another for sale in the studio.
